"You guys are gonna be residing in the building a lot more than any of us,” Bourgeoise said.

With two years before the planned opening of 65 Fifth Ave., the university facilities committee is now deciding exactly how the space will be used, and what will be in it, including the chairs.

On December 3, the committee announced that they will be holding a chair test to decide on the best seating for the future University Center.  Until December 20, the prospective chairs will be at 71 Fifth Ave., on the ninth floor, available for sitting between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. until December 20.

Nadine Bourgeois, dean of academic planning at Parsons and a member of the facilities committee, is excited to have students involved in the planning. “I’m super interested in having as many students try them out since you guys are gonna be residing in the building a lot more than any of us,” she said

Sixteen different styles of chair will be available for sitting, from classroom seats to library lounge chairs. Most styles have several different types available, with the exception of science lab stools and telescope auditorium chairs.

After testing the chairs, students and faculty are encouraged to fill out a survey on their experience. The chairs will be judged on comfort, appearance and stackability.
